5Purpose built for exercise  Feb 18, 2009
By Tawriffic
I have just recently received my new MX85's and they are fantastic. I previously had the green MX75's which served me perfectly for over 1,000km's of running. These new orange MX85's are very similar in design with only 2 noticeable differences. The first being the little piece that clips into the top of your ear is softer, giving the new earphones a more comfortable fit overall. Secondly, the stiff wire has been replace by a softer wire in the MX85's. Time will tell if this softer approach will last as long.
Prior to the MX75's, I had tried a lot of different earphones for exercise. I always ended up spending a considerable part of my run either holding one earphone in or readjusting them and it drove me spare. These earphones solved the problem immediately.
I found the best way to use these earphones is to put the wire under my shirt and then use the included clip on my collar to hold the wire in place. I never have to adjust my earphones during a run and the sound quality is outstanding. I don't notice the Bass problems that others have mentioned, but then again, I use these only for exercise.

Money well spent and purpose built for runners!!!

2Not Right for Runners  Oct 16, 2009
By Running Ultra "MAS"
I run about 45 miles per week average and have been searching for the perfect runner's earphones. These are definitely not them. The singular problem with these is that when you twist them and they fit snuggly in your ear, it only stays that way for about 5 minutes. Then, you must reach up and re-adjust the earphones, with a slight twist to get them back into your ear. If you wanted earphones that fit tightly and permanently in your ears during your run, these are miles away from being the right ones. They do sound good, yes. They are durable, yes...but they just do not stay in your ears for any prolonged period of time.

IMPORTANT: I have tested 10 different types of sets in the search for the PERFECT runner's earphones that always stay in your ears, that never need to be re-adjusted and that sound great. The search is over now. They are the Sennheiser PMX70 (they make a newer model, the PMX80). Look no further for the perfect long distance runner's earphones. Buy them, test them out and then come back and write me here about your experience with them. It cost me a lot of time and money to narrow it down to this one set of earphones (Sennheiser PMX70) - now you don't have to waste your own time and money and you can skip right to purchasing the long distance runner's dream earphone. If you purchase and test the Sennheiser PMX70, you will be simply amazed by how it is complete in all of the areas that runner's need/seek in their earphones. Good luck and happy running!

4Great sound, but right fit is key  May 17, 2009
By S. HALL
Bought these after returning Altec Lansing Backbeat UHP206s, which sounded too bassy and dull in the mids/highs for my tastes and would not stay in my ears while jogging. The Sennheiser MX 85s offer much better sound quality IMO at a comparable price. Plus they are lightweight, secure, and designed with the runner/athlete in mind.

The trick to unlocking the full sound potential is to find the right fit for your ears. In my case, this has taken a couple of hours time experimenting with the included ear adapters/pads, but the reward is rich sound with smooth low-end bass, detailed mid-range, and balanced highs. I cannot stress the importance of fit enough - without the proper fit, they sound tinny and weak.

In conclusion, if you are a runner looking for excellent sound and a secure fit, definitely consider these.

4Best bet !  Feb 09, 2010
By Sivakarthik Maruthappan "Shivi"
This is my 2nd pair of senheiser sport earphones. The first was the cheaper version of the same series (green one).I lost those (must have dropped off my jacket pocket..darn!). Anyways,as you already figured, these earphones had enough appeal in them to demand a 2nd purchase.

Let me cut to the chase,

Pros:- Good sound quality.Contrary to several comments on bass issues n stuff, I find the overall audio throughput good enough to boost your adrenaline at the gym. Coming from someone who owns a Bose QC2 and a Koss studio headphone, you get the point.

Good fit.I have tried doing pretty much everything with these guys on - running, skipping, pull ups, push ups, crunches and of course some serious lifting. They never let go! If you are capable off shrugging them off your ears, you need to be in the olympics!
You have different sizes of rubber stoppers to choose from depending on the size of your ear, and they plug right under the top of your inner ear lobe without causing any discomfort.

Good length.I normally wear them under my tshirt with the cable running down my back. They are lengthy enough to provide that extra flexibility for any complex moves you perform.

Cons:- The cable although lengthy, tends to coil like a spring. It is not a problem for the patient soul, but if you are the type who does not like to untangle things, you have a good 30 seconds to spell out a mouthful.

Tendency to get lost! Just kidding, thats about it folks. These guys are a good investment and a great companion at the gym. Get a pair without any 2nd thoughts!

ps: If you don't mind the striking green color, go for the cheaper MX75 ones.I did not see a great deal of difference between the two.

Cheers!

1Not for me  Aug 20, 2010
By Love to read "Cricket"
I read many of the reviews for this item and decided to go along with the positive ones. Much to my dismay I am on the other side. I found the earphones to be extremely uncomfortable. By the end of my workout I could not even smile because moving my face put pressure on the tiny pieces that "hold the buds in place." They sounded a bit tinny and I was not impressed with the bass. I have to admit that I love bass to a fault in my music. They were difficult to "plug" in to my ears and I didn't think that they seated in well. I prefer the Sony MDR-EX36B. They are a basic earbud that pretty much stay put. This is such a personal preference and good luck to anyone searching for something that works for them.
